Your Right to Receive a Good Faith Estimate of Expected Charges
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
- Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
- Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

How This Works at Adventures in Progress
- Before the evaluation: When you schedule an evaluation, you’ll receive a written Good Faith Estimate within the timeframe set by federal law: within 1 business day if your appointment is 3 to 9 business days away, or within 3 business days if it’s 10 or more business days away. If you ask for an estimate before scheduling, you’ll receive it within 3 business days.
- Ongoing therapy: If therapy is recommended, you’ll receive an estimate based on your child’s plan of care. Updated estimates are provided as care continues or if the plan changes.
- What’s included: Your estimate will include occupational therapy evaluations and therapy sessions. If a treatment location or your child’s plan involves any additional charges, such as a facility or equipment fee, those will be included in your estimate and discussed with you before services begin.
- Just an estimate: A Good Faith Estimate is not a bill, and it doesn’t commit your family to a set number of sessions.
Current fees are listed on the Services page. You’re always welcome to ask for an estimate before scheduling, or to reach out with any questions about cost:
